    Explore future trends:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a growing role in how people apply for and get jobs. From resume screening to video interviews, AI tools are used by most large employers to make recruitment faster and more data driven. For students and jobseekers, understanding how these systems work can improve your chances of success in the modern job market.

    Benefits and challenges

AI brings both advantages and challenges for job seekers. The technology speeds up hiring, reduces bias in screening and allows candidates to apply from anywhere in the world. But it also creates competition, with tools that let applicants send many applications in minutes, employers now receive hundreds of submissions per role. AI’s objectivity can also miss elements such as creativity or personality, making authentic and targeted applications even more important.

    Practical tips for you

    • Use specific keywords from the job ad description so your resume aligns with AI Application tracking system filters.

    • Save resumes in simple formats (like Word or PDF) and avoid images or tables that may confuse ATS software.

    • Practice with video interview applications with video recording features to grow comfortable speaking to a camera.

    • Focus on soft skills, such as communication, body language, teamwork and adaptability, which employers increasingly assess through AI supported video tools.

    • While AI tools can be helpful, over-reliance on them may raise concerns for some employers, especially if your application lacks a personal touch or sounds overly generic. Applications generated primarily by AI often fail to stand out, making it harder for employers to differentiate one candidate from another.

    Looking ahead

The role of AI in recruitment will likely continue to expand. Experts suggest that AI will not replace human decision making but rather support it by handling repetitive tasks and helping recruiters focus on people rather than paperwork. For students, preparing for future careers, learning how these tools work can give you confidence and a practical edge in a changing job market.
